The talented Wither Hills winemakers craft exceptional award-winning wines that reflect their unique sense of place. Hailing from the iconic Hawke’s Bay region and renowned for beautiful deep reds, which are complex and full of character, Wither Hills Syrah is the essence of Hawke’s Bay in a glass. Wither Hills Syrah is crammed full of dark fruit, pepper, spice and floral notes an elegantly textured wine with seductive, lingering toasty oak.
The grapes for this wine were sourced from selected vineyard blocks in the sunny Hawke’s Bay, and matured in a range of oak. The fruit was gently de-stemmed, then crushed into small fermenters that were both pumped over and punched down up to three times daily through the active phase of fermentation. After fermentation was complete each tank was left on skins for an extended maceration period to aid the integration and softening of the tannins. The wine was matured under different oak regimes.

Established in 1994 and named after the landmark Wither Hills range that borders our vineyards, our expert team blend beautifully balanced, expressive wines New Zealanders know and trust to represent quality without pretense. Fruit for our Wither Hills Early Light range of wines is harvested early to capture optimum flavour ripeness whilst reducing the levels of naturally occurring sugar. This lower level of sugar means less alcohol is converted resulting in a lighter in alcohol style of wine.
